Is there a mushroom dispensary near me?
Not a legal one: no state licenses a walk-in psilocybin dispensary, so there isn't one near anyone in the US. This page sets out the three real options, what each one risks, and the closest legal option in your part of the country.
From our sister shop, My Mushroom Dispensary. Adults 21+ only.

Is there a legal mushroom dispensary near me?
No. There's no legal walk-in psilocybin dispensary anywhere in the United States, so there isn't one near you, whatever a map app or a shop sign says. Psilocybin is a Schedule I drug under federal law,1 and the only two states with licensed programs open to the public, Oregon and Colorado, allow it only during a supervised session with a licensed facilitator, with nothing sold to take home.23
That leaves three real options. None of them is a shop you can walk into and browse legally:
- A licensed center in Oregon or Colorado. Legal under those states' laws for adults 21 and older, supervised and on site. It's still illegal under federal law.
- An unlicensed storefront. Illegal to run and illegal to buy from. Police close them, and lab tests show their products often aren't what the label says.
- Ordering online. Illegal under federal law and in every state, because no state licenses mail-order psilocybin. If you're 21 or older and decide to order anyway, the people who publish this register also run an online psychedelic mushroom dispensary, My Mushroom Dispensary. Ordering from it is still against federal law.
Can I go to a licensed psilocybin center?
Yes, if you're 21 or older, pass the screening and can get to a center. Neither program works like a store. You book a supervised session, take the psilocybin there, and leave without any.
Oregon service centers
Oregon's program is open to adults 21 and older. You don't need to live in Oregon, and you don't need a prescription or a medical referral.2 There are three steps: a preparation session with a licensed facilitator (intake and informed consent), an administration session at a licensed service center, and a follow-up within 72 hours. "Products may not be purchased and taken off-site," the Oregon Health Authority says.2 State law lets a client buy, possess and consume psilocybin "only at a psilocybin service center" and "only under the supervision" of a facilitator.4
Screening comes first. The health authority lists three things that rule a client out: taking lithium in the past 30 days, a diagnosis of active psychosis at any time, and thoughts of harming yourself or someone else.2 Centers are few. Willamette Week counted 20 service centers actively listed in the state's license directory on June 30, 2026; listing is optional, so the real number can differ.5
Colorado healing centers
Colorado licenses healing centers, where a licensed facilitator runs the session and must check that each participant is 21 or older.6 The state had approved 47 healing center licenses (12 standard and 35 micro) as of October 30, 2026.7 Since August 12, 2026, a healing center's owner can also hold a Limited Regulated Natural Medicine Sales License.7 It lets that center sell to people "taking part in an administration session" there, and to no one else, so it isn't a retail license.3 Our Denver page explains Colorado's separate rule that lets adults share mushrooms without payment.
Everywhere else
New Mexico's Medical Psilocybin Program isn't open yet; the state health department says it's set to start by December 31, 2026.8 When it opens it will serve patients with qualifying conditions in approved settings, not shoppers. New Jersey (three hospitals) and Utah (qualifying health systems) have patient-only pilots. Everywhere else, the only legal route is to enroll in a clinical trial. Our guide to licensed psilocybin centers covers each program.
What happens at unlicensed mushroom storefronts?
They get closed, and the people running them get charged. No state licenses them, so every shop that calls itself a mushroom dispensary is selling outside the law, whatever it says about decriminalization, gifting, churches or memberships. Our register logs the public record, and a few entries show the pattern:
- In Washington, DC, regulators and police had padlocked 114 unlicensed shops between July 15, 2024 and October 30, 2026. That count combines cannabis and mushroom shops; DC doesn't publish a mushroom-only figure.9
- In Portland, Oregon, police raided the storefront called Shroom House on December 8, 2022, and arrested four people. Its manager later pleaded guilty to three felonies (register record).
- In Los Angeles County, the Sheriff's Department said in 2023 it had served about 50 search warrants at dispensaries selling magic mushrooms over six months, and that the shops tended to reopen somewhere else (register record).
- In Rosamond, California, a federal, state and local task force served warrants at four unlicensed dispensaries on February 12, 2026, arrested nine people and closed all four.10
Buyers aren't protected either. Possessing psilocybin is a federal crime, punishable by up to a year in prison on a first offense,11 and outside the licensed programs it's a state crime too in every state we've checked except Colorado, where adults 21 and older may possess it. Even in Colorado, buying from a shop means taking part in an illegal sale. A receipt from a "dispensary" is no defense anywhere.
The products carry their own risk. When researchers tested 12 "magic mushroom" edibles bought at Portland shops, none contained psilocybin; three held psilocin that looked synthetic, two held other synthetic tryptamines, and 8 of the 12 contained ingredients the label didn't list.12 In 2024, mushroom chocolates, cones and gummies were linked to 180 illnesses in 34 states, with 73 people hospitalized, according to the CDC.13 Our testing guide has the details, and our guide to what happens in a raid covers owners, staff and customers.
Is ordering psilocybin online legal?
No. The Postal Service says mailing a controlled substance is unlawful unless both the sender and the recipient are registered with the DEA, which no shop or customer is.14 Receiving the package counts as possession, the federal crime above.11 No state licenses mail-order psilocybin, and the licensed programs don't ship: Oregon's law keeps purchase and use inside the service center, and Colorado's sales license is limited to people in a session.43
Packages get found, too: postal staff must report controlled substances they find in the mail.14 Our guide to online mushroom dispensaries covers internet sales law, seizures, scams and what an honest shop shows.
What's the closest legal option in my region?
For most of the country, it's a trip to Colorado or Oregon. Check any center's license with the state's own tools, not a directory site: Oregon publishes a licensee directory and a license status search, and Colorado has a license verification search and a facilitator license lookup.
| Region | Closest legal option | Our pages |
|---|---|---|
| West (Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, Hawaii) | Oregon's licensed service centers; check one in Oregon's directory | Oregon, California |
| Mountain (Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming) | Colorado's licensed healing centers; check one in Colorado's lookup. New Mexico's program isn't open yet; Utah's pilot is for health-system patients only | Denver, Las Vegas |
| Midwest | No state program. Nearest: Colorado | Michigan, Illinois records |
| South | No state program. Nearest: Colorado, and New Mexico once its program opens | Florida records |
| Northeast and DC | No program open to the public. New Jersey's three-hospital pilot is for patients only | New York, Washington, DC |
In every region, the other legal route is enrolling in a clinical trial. A business that claims an Oregon or Colorado license and also ships or sells over a counter isn't operating under that license; neither state's license allows it.
Why are "near me" results full of spam and Canadian news?
With no legal business to list, the space fills with junk. When we searched "mushroom dispensary near me" on November 2, 2026, six of the top eight organic results were auto-generated keyword pages planted on a university subdomain and a public library's subdomain, with no law, no sources and no real locations. The other two were copies of one local TV story from the opening of a Tampa shop billed as the first magic mushroom dispensary in the country. Our headline check follows what happened to it and to similar "first legal dispensary" stories.
The word "dispensary" also pulls in the wrong businesses. In our searches, Michigan and New York results were mostly licensed cannabis stores, and Las Vegas results were mostly gourmet mushroom farms. Neither kind of business sells psilocybin.
Searches without "near me" pull in Canada. For "psychedelic mushroom dispensary," about two-thirds of the news results we saw were about stores in Vancouver, Toronto and other Canadian cities. Those stores aren't licensed either. A 2025 study in JAMA Network Open, which describes psilocybin in Canada as "illegal outside of clinical trials," counted 57 unlicensed psilocybin stores open there in May 2024 (38 in Ontario and 17 in British Columbia) and found that 19 of the 22 store websites with health content (86.4%) made mental-health claims.15 A Canadian headline isn't evidence that anything is legal in the US.
Questions people ask
Can I use an Oregon service center if I don't live in Oregon?
Yes. Oregon says clients don't need to live in the state, and no prescription or medical referral is required. You must be 21 or older, pass the screening, and take the psilocybin at the center during a supervised session.
Can I take psilocybin home from a licensed center?
No. Oregon says products "may not be purchased and taken off-site." Colorado's new sales license only covers people taking part in a session at that healing center.
How do I check whether a psilocybin center is licensed?
Use the state's own tools: Oregon's licensee directory and license status search, and Colorado's license verification search and facilitator lookup, all linked in the region section above. Listing in Oregon's directory is optional, so the status search is the surer check.
Does my city's decriminalization make a mushroom shop legal?
No. City measures set police priorities for adults' personal use. None licenses a shop, and state and federal law still apply. Our state-by-state guide lists each measure and what it covers.
Are the mushroom dispensaries on my map real?
They're real businesses, but none is licensed to sell psilocybin. In our records and searches they've been unlicensed psilocybin shops, cannabis or smoke shops selling mushroom products on the side, or shops selling Amanita or non-psychedelic "functional" mushrooms under the same word.
