The US mushroom dispensary register: raids, closures and local laws since 2019

Every documented public-record event about storefront psilocybin "dispensaries" in the US that we could source since 2019: 139 dated records of raids, padlocks, charges, rulings and local laws. It is not a directory, so there are no addresses, no open shops and no names of private people.

What is the mushroom dispensary register?

It is a dated log of every public-record event we could source about storefront psilocybin "mushroom dispensaries" in the United States since 2019, plus the local and state laws those shops point to. Each of the 139 records gives a date, a place, the agency involved, what happened and links to its sources, checked as of November 2, 2026.

It is not a directory. No state licenses a walk-in psilocybin dispensary (the state-by-state answer is on are mushroom dispensaries legal), so every storefront in these records was operating outside the law. The register gives no addresses, hours or websites, never says a shop is open, and never names a private person. A business appears by name only when an official record or two separate news outlets name it, and only as raided, charged, warned, closed or sued.

Download the register. US mushroom dispensary register, 2019 to 2026: 139 records, updated November 2, 2026. Free to reuse under CC BY 4.0 with a link to this page.

What does the record show?

Seven findings, each counted from the 139 records as of November 2, 2026. Each record number opens that record in the list below.

  1. No government in the record licenses a psilocybin storefront. The register holds 32 records of local and state decriminalization or lowest-priority measures, in seven states and DC. They set police priorities or, in Colorado, make adult personal use legal under state law; none creates a store license. In 22 of the 32, the measure's text or the reporting on it says commercial sales are excluded or not covered, from Denver's 2019 vote (co-2019-01) to Nevada City's 2026 resolution (ca-2026-02). San Francisco's 2022 resolution has no sales exclusion in its text, and it still licenses nothing (ca-2022-03).1

  2. Washington, DC has the densest enforcement record. 13 of the 46 enforcement records are in DC, more than in any state. The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration's running count of unlicensed businesses padlocked under its 2024 closure powers, cannabis and mushroom shops combined, went from 13 in November 2024 (dc-2024-06) to 56 in May 2025 (dc-2025-03) and 114 by October 30, 2026 (dc-2026-04).2 Seven DC shops appear by name as padlocked, among them a business that presented itself as a church (dc-2025-05). ABCA does not publish how many of the 114 sold psilocybin.

  3. Raids are on record in nine states and DC, and most are recent. There are 24 raid records: 7 in DC, 6 in California, 3 in New York, 2 in Michigan and 1 each in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Ohio and Oregon. 15 of the 24 date from 2024 or later, including warrants served at four unlicensed dispensaries outside Edwards Air Force Base in February 2026 (ca-2026-01)3 and at San Francisco smoke shops in September and October 2026 (ca-2026-03).

  4. "Church" claims have not protected sales. 13 records involve 7 groups that presented themselves as churches or religious users of psilocybin (we count the Church of Ambrosia's Oakland and San Francisco sites as one group). None shows a court or regulator ruling that religion lets a business sell psilocybin to the public. DC's ABC Board found no sincere religious belief under the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act and kept a shop padlocked (dc-2025-06);4 a Detroit shop's owner signed a consent agreement acknowledging the sales were illegal (mi-2025-01); and on October 5, 2026 a federal appeals court said a lower court should not have blocked Utah County's prosecution of a member of Singularism, a group that uses psilocybin in ceremonies (ut-2026-02).5 The page on the legal claims shops make takes each argument in turn.

  5. Civil tools far outnumber convictions. The register has 9 warning-letter or cease-and-desist records (7 in Colorado, 2 in DC) and 11 records of a storefront being padlocked or sealed, against 2 records of a conviction or plea: a Portland shop manager's guilty plea in December 2022 (or-2022-04)6 and a reported New York disposition in 2024 (ny-2024-05). Colorado's Natural Medicine Division sent 5 of the letters (co-2024-01 is one).7 In 12 of the 49 enforcement and court records, the outcome, or part of it, was not found or not yet reported. What a raid means for owners, staff, landlords and buyers is on what happens when a shop is raided.

  6. Federal agencies rarely appear. Only 3 of the 46 enforcement records involve a federal agency, all from 2026: the Rosamond task force with the DEA and Air Force security forces (ca-2026-01), an ATF-led indictment of an online delivery service in DC (dc-2026-05) and Colorado Springs police working with the DEA at seven shops (co-2026-04).8 Everything else was city, county or state work.

  7. Nobody counts the shops. No agency in the register publishes a count of psilocybin storefronts, and all 7 storefront-count records rest on news reports. DC's "100-plus" figure counts cannabis gifting shops, some of which also sold mushrooms (dc-2024-05). Oakland's figure of seven smoke shops came from one brand's website (ca-2022-02). The nearest official gauge is the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department saying in 2023 that it had served about 50 search warrants at dispensaries selling mushrooms in the prior six months (ca-2023-02).9

Some of the best-known "first legal dispensary" stories are in here too; our headline check follows each one to its outcome.

How was the register built?

We started from primary records: police and agency releases, court and board orders, council resolutions, ballot results, statutes and bill pages. News reports fill in dated events where we found no official record. 61 of the 139 records cite at least one primary record, 71 cite two or more sources, and the register links 221 sources in all.

What counts as a record

A record is one dated event: a raid or search, an arrest, charges, a conviction or plea, a closure, a warning or cease-and-desist letter, a reported storefront count, a city or state action, a lawsuit or court ruling, or a local decriminalization measure. We include the laws because storefronts cite them as cover. We leave out cases at private homes, parcel seizures and events outside the US. When an agency said "mushrooms" or "mushroom edibles" without saying psilocybin, the record says so. 21 records give a month without a day because the sources gave none or did not agree on one.

The naming rule

We name a business only when an official record or two separate news outlets name it, and only as raided, charged, warned, closed or sued. 33 records name one of 23 businesses that way: 18 records rest on an official record and 15 on two outlets. We never name owners, staff, customers or defendants, and we name officials by office. Nothing in a record places a shop more precisely than its city or neighborhood.

Confidence levels

Every record carries one of three labels. We call a record confirmed only when one of its cited sources is an official record.

Questions people ask

Is this a list of mushroom dispensaries I can visit?

No. It records what happened to storefronts, not where they are, and it never says a shop is open. The legal routes to psilocybin are supervised sessions at licensed centers in Oregon and Colorado, a few patient-only hospital pilots and clinical trials; see licensed psilocybin centers.

Why are some businesses named and others not?

We print a business name only when an official record or two separate news outlets name it, and only as raided, charged, warned, closed or sued. When only one outlet named a shop, the record describes it by type and city instead. We never name private people.

Does a raid record mean the business broke the law?

A raid, arrest or charge is an accusation, not a verdict. Only 2 records show a conviction or plea, and many outcomes were never reported.

How current is it?

We last checked every record on November 2, 2026; the newest event is dated October 30, 2026.

How do I report an error or a missing event?
